Philippe Starck

Born on 18 January 1949 in Paris, Philippe Starck is considered the number one European designer, as well as working as an architect and designer (he has designed numerous premises in Paris, New York and Tokyo). While still a student at Notre Dame of Saint Croix in Neully, he created an inflatable structure company financed by the French actor Lino Ventura. In 1970 he created the "Easy Light" lighting system, the first of his creations to be published. In 1981, the meeting with Jean-Louis Costes allowed Starck to conceive, three years later, the renovation of the famous Café Costes, in Place des Innocents, in the first district of Paris. He is the winner of important awards such as the Grand Prix National de la Création Industrielle (1988) and the Honor Award of the American Institute of Architects in 1992, for the Paramount Hotel in New York. He holds an important teaching activity. In 2000 he redesigned the entire collection of Emeco, the American company considered an American classic, which produces the legendary Navy chair, the hand-finished aluminum chair designed for the US Navy which can be found in Hollywood films, in New York bars, in Frank Gehry's villas
