Moving away from Dino Gavina who in the early 60s created the first niche of high quality brands

Sergio Cammilli adopts a different, experimental method, uniting the polycentric soul of Italian design and its contradictions and opposing tendencies by creating items such as boxing gloves and baseballs transformed into comfortable armchairs and poufs suitable for furnishing eccentric and very extravagant environments. It was precisely this complexity that was the source of the unity and vitality of this extraordinary phenomenon that has shocked the entire interior furnishing sector with unique pieces and limited editions . Cammilli immediately brought together, in the same catalogue, the anarchist works of Archizoom and Cub8 by Angelo Mangiarotti , the first Italian equipped wall, the postmodern experiments of Paolo Portoghesi and the irreverent archetypes of Ettore Sottsass .

In short words

The Poltronova company, founded in Agliana in 1957 by Sergio Cammilli supported by Bonacchi , defined by Ettore Sottsass jr. In 1958 Cammilli met Sottsass, who at that time was working as a ceramist for the Bitossi company, they began a professional collaboration which was decisive for the creation of the brand's vision. In 1967 Design Center was born, a Poltronova brand founded and directed by Sergio Cammilli who, from 1969 to 1979, exhibited and sold lighting objects and the Yantra series, ceramic objects designed by Sottsass, in a gallery in the heart of Milan. After the 1970s, Poltronova collaborated with postmodernist designers such as Hans Hollein , Franco Raggi and Paolo Portoghesi in the 1980s, and Ron Arad ,Nigel Coates and Prospero Rasulo between the 1990s and 2000s. In 2005 Roberta Meloni, who became the majority shareholder in 2001 and is responsible for management, founded the Poltronova Study Center for design whose archive in 2013 was recognized as "of particularly important historical interest by the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendence of Tuscany ". The objects Sgarsul (Gae Aulenti, 1962), Superonda (Archizoom Associati, 1967), Mies (Archizoom Associati, 1969), Joe (Jonathan De Pas, Donato D'Urbino, Paolo Lomazzi, 1970) and Ultrafragola (Ettore Sottsass jr., 1970) are present in the Permanent Collection of Italian Design of the Milan Triennale and, since 2019, they have been on display in the Museum of Italian Design.
