Data sheet
Ultrafragola is a mirror/lamp designed by Ettore Sottsass Jr for the Poltronova brand. Icon of vintage, contemporary and certainly future design . Today Ultrafragola presents itself with an innovative lighting system , at the forefront of current technology. A unique piece of design born from the creative genius of Ettore Sottsass and produced for the first time in 1970. The architect drew inspiration from the sinuous shape of wavy female hair, then transforming it into an element to display in your living room, bathroom, or in a luxury shop, spa or lobby. Designed for the "Mobili Grigi" collection, Ultrafragola is the only element of that series that has remained in continuous production for Poltronova from 1970 to today. The Ultrafragola frame, which encloses the mirror, is thermoformed in translucent opal plastic material which emits a pink light, supported by a double strip of 4+4 meters of RGB LEDs (120 LED/m) enclosed in a specially designed opaline PMMA profile created for the Ultrafragola mirror to diffuse light at 360°. The brightness of the systems is uniform, while the color varies slightly depending on the technology. The LED version requires a few minutes to reach maximum brightness ; the mirror will light up with a more intense color but will return to its characteristic soft pink in a short time. Currently, the Ultrafragola products are thermoformed from the single original aluminum mold from 1970. The assembly and all the plastic components are finished by hand in the company, as is the preparation for hanging it. The back panel is made of flame retardant forex. Finally, each Ultrafragola has a unique numerical code, printed by the company on the back of the object, which certifies its authenticity and Italian origin. Ultrafragola is part of the permanent collections of MoMa , the Triennale Design Museum and the ADAM Museum in Brussels .
